Porsche announces Mission E Tractor

Plugging into the future of all-electric agriculture.

Porsche AG is delighted to announce the latest addition to the Mission E model line. Following the successful debut of the Mission E Cross Turismo at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show, Porsche is heading even further off road with the all-electric Mission E Tractor.

This bold vision for 21st Century agriculture blends design cues from Porsche’s original mid 1950s tractors with the same advanced digital connectivity and 800v fast-charging architecture that powers the Mission E.

With a power output in excess of 700hp, the Mission E Tractor will be the fastest accelerating agricultural vehicle in the world, enabling farmers to harvest crops in record time with the added environmental benefits of zero emissions at source and significantly reduced operating noise.

The Mission E Tractor will also benefit from Porsche’s newly developed FastFarm App, designed to provide 24-hour satellite-based weather updates and a mobile farmers’ forum.

Porsche is confident that the combination of tradition and innovation – and enough power to set a pretty good lap time on the Nordschleife – will make the Mission E Tractor a runaway sales success.

Porsche Mission E Tractor Actually Makes Perfect Sense

Meant as an April Fool’s day stunt, Porsche unveiled its Mission E Tractor.

But we think it should be made, though probably not by Porsche.

Electrifying low-speed vehicles like a tractor is actually quite easy. The draw on the battery pack it typically quite low, unless under heavy load and the immediate grunt provided by electrification is perfect in these high-torque applications.

Now, it seems Porsche has gone a bit overboard with its specs, but electrification of commercial equipment such as this is actually happening and the benefits are immense.

For April fools yesterday, Porsche sent out a press release unveiling the all-electric ‘Mission E tractor’ – a tractor built by leveraging the Mission E’s electric powertrain.

Like I wrote yesterday about Elon Musk’s April fools joke, I’m not the biggest fan of April fools pranks, especially when they are purposely made to be perceived as real by a reasonable person.

If you read the press release, it could very well and should be a real product aside maybe from the mention of the acceleration:

I really don’t see why this should be a joke since it absolutely makes sense to transition tractors to electric powertrains and Porsche fast-charging technology could actually help make it happen.

Electric motors can certainly offer enough torque for the needed capacity of tractors and with improvements in battery technology, the use time and charging capacity are starting to make sense.

Of course, it’s not really Porsche’s kind of product, but I think it actually could be a good seller.

Farmers are always looking for ways to cut costs and fuel and maintenance for their vehicles are a big ones.

They are also often very aware of the impact of pollution on the environment, which affects their business significantly. Therefore, they could be more inclined to buy a less polluting solution to work their fields.

John Deere has an all-electric tractor prototype for zero-emission agriculture, but it has so far made no plan to bring the vehicle to production.

Someone should definitely make it happen.

Концепт Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo показал салон будущего

Длина концепта — 4,95 м, ширина и высота — 1,99 и 1,42, шины — 275/40 R20. Интересны вертикальные воздуховоды по углам бампера («воздушные шторки»), матричные диодные фары с трёхмерным дизайном ходовых огней и мощным дальним светом Porsche X-Sight.

Женевский автосалон послужил площадкой для премьеры шоу-кара Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo. Сами немцы определяют концепт как Cross Utility Vehicle (CUV), хотя по виду он ближе не к кроссоверам, а к универсалам, пусть даже приподнятым. Сравните обводы Cross Turismo с Панамерой Sport Turismo (кстати, в отношении неё компания предпочитает не использовать слово универсал, слишком уж утилитарный характер оно предполагает). В любом случае перед нами развитие концептуального электрокара Mission E, представленного в 2015-м.

Авторы модели говорят, что это видение того, как мог бы выглядеть «гран туризмо» с атрибутами внедорожника. Кстати, украшениями из пластика вседорожная подготовка не исчерпывается. Пневмоподвеска тут может поднимать кузов на 50 мм. Есть система настроек Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control и активное подавление кренов.

Основные характеристики универсала те же, что у Mission E: два электромотора с суммарной отдачей более 600 л.с, полный привод и система векторизации тяги, разгон с нуля до сотни менее чем за 3,5 с, 0–200 км/ч — менее чем за 12 с. Немцы подчёркивают: возможны несколько ускорений непосредственно друг за другом без потери мощности. Запас хода составляет более 500 км, при этом 800-вольтовая система зарядки позволяет «наполнить» аккумулятор на 400 км за 15 минут. Есть также беспроводная зарядка и возможность подключать машину к сети станций Ionity или к домашнему накопителю, использующему солнечные батареи на крыше коттеджа.

Царство больших экранов не должно удивлять. Однако новая интерпретация салонов Porsche интересна другой особенностью. Тут появились парящая консоль со скрытой подсветкой в нише, трёхмерные текстуры на дверях и передней панели, анодированные детали цвета Nordic Blue (дефлекторы вентиляции, модули стеклоподъёмников), светящиеся надписи Porsche на спинках кресел.

Одной из ключевых особенностей концепта является интерфейс человек-автомобиль. Цифровая приборка тут отслеживает направление взгляда водителя и выводит на передний план ту часть индикаторов, которая интересует его в данный момент. Центральный экран, занимающий всю пассажирскую сторону, фиксирует взгляд переднего пассажира, который получает возможность таким необычным способом управлять многими функциями. На руле есть сенсорные «умные кнопки», на тоннеле — крупный тачпад. А ещё сенсорные дисплеи встроены в блок стеклоподъёмников (там же регулировка кресел) и дефлекторы вентиляции. Система Smart Cabin адаптирует настройки климата и подвески к предпочтениям пассажиров и дорожной ситуации. А ещё многие настройки машины можно выполнять дистанционно (с планшета, смартфона или смарт-часов).

Оба задних кресла обладают люком для сквозной погрузки, спинки также складываются. В багажнике устроена система регулируемых съёмных ремней. А для использования совместно с машиной предлагается электрический велосипед Porsche E-Bike.

В рамках стратегии электрификации компания представит серийный вариант пятидверки Mission E в 2019 году. Легко представить, что и версия Cross Turismo у неё позже также появится, подобно тому, как два типа кузова получила модель Panamera.

Фонарь имеет вид рельефной полосы, в которую интегрированы светящиеся стеклянные буквы «Porsche». А ещё буква E начинает пульсировать во время зарядки машины, изображая поток энергии.

На столь передовых электрокарах вполне можно ждать внедрения новшеств типа технологии блокчейн для криптозащиты различных действий с машиной и транзакций, интеграции автомобиля в «умный дом». Добавим, что после модели Mission E во всех её вариациях компания Porsche намерена строить новые электрокары уже на другой, ещё более совершенной платформе PPE, которую сейчас разрабатывает совместно с Audi.
